Metashine

METASHINE® effects pigments are highly-potent and are produced from microscopic glass flake substrates which are coated with a variety of surface treatments to produce a brilliant yet consistent and well-controlled color, glitter and luster effect when blended with your material.

Each grade consists of a tightly-controlled particle size distribution to deliver a range of effects from isolated starlight to a shimmering metallic lustre. These effects are readily achieved at low addition rates even in bases with low transparency. The coated glass flakes are also extremely thin and when used for personal care applications, they have a high covering power and good tactile feel on the skin.

Due to its composition of industrial glass and metal / metal oxide coatings, METASHINE is very robust and can easily be processed in commercial processing equipment such as polymer extruders and high shear mixers without being degraded

The low addition levels needed to achieve effects using METASHINE minimise any changes in the performance or processing characteristics of the base resin and enables it to be used in a broad range of applications.  It also allows the materials designer a larger area inside his formulation window into which he or she can add other important raw materials.

Advantages
  • High reflection of visible light gives strong decorative effect.
  • Easily dispersed in liquid systems or in polymers
  • Low specific gravity when compared to solid metallic flake reduces settlement within resins and reduces the density of the compound.
  • Excellent high temperature and chemical resistance
  • Excellent weather and UV resistance
  • Can be thermally sterilized for cosmetic applications
Applications
  • Paint and Varnish

  • Cosmetics

  • Plastics

  • Inks

Titania Coated Series

METASHINE® Titania Coat Series consists of NSG’s GLASFLAKE products coated with titanium dioxide and is defined by high transparency and brilliant interference colours. Both glass and titanium dioxide are transparent substances and, therefore, products of this series provide high transparency.

In the light that reflects off the coated layer and glass surface, a difference in optical path lengths is generated.  By carefully adjusting the coating thickness of the titanium dioxide coating, the optical path difference is varied and five colours of interference light can each be generated.

Iron Oxide Coated Series

METASHINE Iron Oxide Coat Series consists of NSG’s  GLASFLAKE products coated with iron oxide. With the standard types, gold to russet colour tones specific to iron oxide can be expressed.

Using NSG’s reduction-treatment of the iron oxide layer,  a dark, black-type appearance is also commercially available.

Silver Coat Series

The METASHINE® Silver Coat Series consists of GLASFLAKE products coated with silver. The use of silver produces remarkably strong brilliance.

There are also additional METASHINE products coated with pure gold on top of the silver.

i-NAFLECS

i-NAFLECS™ effects pigments represent a new range of glass flake products developed by NSG. These micron-sized particles are capable of encapsulating functional substances such as pigments or UV absorbers within pre-designed glass flake pores.

Typically, i-NAFLECS flakes are 1 micron thick and have an effective average diameter of 10 microns.

The extent of micro-porosity in the flake can also be controlled to give a range of effects at low addition levels. Adding to the product design capabilities, the % of pore loading can also be controlled.

i-NAFLECS glass flakes are particularly effective in encapsulating nano-materials within a much larger particle size matrix while preserving the high-performance characteristics typical of many existing nano-materials. In this way, many of the issues associated with nano-particle handling can be mitigated or eliminated.

i-NAFLECS particles are composed of glass. As a result, the product is extremely durable and can easily be processed in standard equipment such as polymer extruders and high shear mixers without being degraded. They are also extremely thin and therefore have a high covering power and good tactile feel on the skin.
