Gel Formation and its Features

Diffusion Setting

Calcium ions react instantly with alginate on the surface of proplets or streams of alginate solution to form a gel. Following this initial reaction, calcium ions diffuse inward.

Heat Stability

Gel Strength and M/G Ratio

High M alginates form resilient and elastic gels, while high G alginates form firm and brittle gels. The desired gel strength is obtained by high G and high M alginates

Waste Water Treatment

Mix sodium alginate with wastewater containing suspended mud and then add CaCl2. Mud is coagulated and precipitated
